What you can expect:

WHAT CAN I EXPECT? (includes Terms and Conditions)

  • Classes at the Gallery of Good are limited to 6 students per session allowing a comfortable intimate learning atmosphere while allowing plenty of one-on-one teaching time for each student in order to enjoy the best learning experience.

  • Each session will run like an ‘Open Studio’ - meaning you will be free to pursue your own projects using the skills learnt in the Beginners term, guided by advice & expertise from your teacher.

  • The first session of each term we begin with a round table discussion of ideas that each student wants to pursue over the coming term- this is a great opportunity for everyone to share ideas. I encourage students come with a ‘Visual Diary’ - this could be a physical book with collage pictures or hand drawn ideas, or a Pinterest board with ideas and inspiration. Spend some time looking at work you like on the internet and think about how you can apply these ideas to your own work. Sharing with other students helps all of us gain insight into learning about the design and making of ceramic projects. I encourage you to push yourself and try new ideas. Please be mindful to not directly copy any artists work  - use ideas for inspiration, but please make it your own.  I am happy to guide students with ideas if you are stuck and also encourage you to make use of my expansive pottery library.

  • I encourage students to work on pieces over several weeks - as long as work is wrapped in plastic, it will stay soft enough to work the following week. I encourage this at this level as you can work on more complex projects in this class. As you gain confidence with your skill set you will begin to appreciate that taking your time with pieces and giving attention to detail will help elevate your work.

  • You can use the wheel or pursue hand-building projects- or both!!

  • Use of all studio equipment, clay (white earthenware), underglazes and studio glazes is included in the cost (use of some other glazes may be negotiated with Ruth at extra cost but please understand not all glazes are made available to use by students).

  • Due to limitations with kiln space, extra large pieces will be charged extra firing rates. I am happy to discuss working on large pieces with individual students.

  • Work from the term will be available 4 weeks after the term completion. Any pieces remaining uncollected will be destroyed.

  • ALL pieces must be labelled clearly with the makers name. No liability is made for lost work.

  • Please note: We do not take any responsibility for student’s work cracking during any part of the making process. Most often this is how the maker assembled the piece. Whilst we endeavour to teach you how to avoid this during the making process, unfortunately sometimes losses occur during the pottery making process. No guarantees are made to final pieces coming out whole. It is all part of the learning experience of pottery.

  • The Gallery of Good disclaims to the extent permitted by law all liability whatsoever for any loss, injury, or damage sustained by any customer or third party, whether to person or property, arising out of any workshop or related activity offered by the Gallery of Good.

  • Due to small class sizes we can only issue a refund in case of health reasons. All bookings are final once payment is made. The Gallery of Good does not offer refunds for change of mind/circumstance.

  • NB: We have 2 resident Ragdoll cats in our gallery. Please be aware that we take no responsibility for allergies so please take appropriate antihistamine treatment prior to coming to the Gallery.

  • Payment is acceptance of Terms and Conditions explained in this course outline.

Made in the Gallery of Good

All of Ruth’s ceramics are made with LOVE in her purpose built studio, The Gallery of Good, on the lands of the GunaiKurnai peoples, in the Strzelecki ranges joust outside of Trafalgar in West Gippsland, Victoria, AUSTRALIA.
Every piece is intended to bring joy and as a reminder of the importance of love; hence why Ruth uses a love heart in her makers mark on the bottom of each piece and you will often see love hearts used decoratively across her work.

  • The Gallery set up for our Live Jazz concerts
